Are Dad books related to Cod-Liver-Oil books? We read them to understand a topic rather than a curious slice of history. They are good for us despite the effort to swallow. James Gleick's "Chaos" and "The Information" as well as Hanno Saurer's "The Invention of Good and Evil".
I am a dad and have a dad's book list for my kids to buy for me from. I have not bought as many books in recent months because of the price and economy. I'd love to buy Chernow's book on Mark Twain, but until recently $60 for the hard cover is a hard pass. Soft cover at about $34, is more like it. I am looking forward to Boyko's new book, and that IS on my dad's day list.

I have always been a fan of books (I am electronic now and on my third e-reader, likely to be replaced yet again in the near future). The fact is that when your industry does it's job well - as it usually does - provides entertainment and information that is pretty difficult to find elsewhere.

Also on the list of highly recommended Dad books, The Governors General by John Fraser. Best read consecutively with The Prime Ministers!
