Although strictly speaking not a publishing story, I think for many readers the significant moment of this past year was what was learned of Alice Munro. Naturally some returned to her stories in search of clues and echoes. But more, readers were led to consider and reconsider the relation between any author and their work.
A quick note of appreciation for your newsletter. which I discovered when I started by own Substack, called Stories from the Edge of Music. Unrelated, but did you see that the major music industry funding organization for robbed of almost $10 MILLION — a payment from Heritage. I wonder if government will be MUCH more careful when it comes to paying out money to cultural organizations, including book publishers?
Thanks for all the brilliant commentary this year, Ken. Merry Christmas!
Ken - this country needs your publishing house. Well done!!
